But whenexpectations are high, and compared to Dark Knight(2008), people leftthe cinema disappointed.<br><br>This is where the difference comes in, director Wilson Yip and ProducerRaymond Wong took a risk. They decided to go for a different directionwith Ip Man 3, a stark contrast from Ip Man 1 and 2. Instead ofNationalist Pride, the main focus of Ip Man 3 is human emotion andmelodrama. Instead of just realistic fight scenes, Yuen Woo Ping(IronMonkey, Matrix, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon) was brought in to add"beauty" and "detail" into every fight scene? So what is the result? Abeautiful film in its own right, which may spark differences in opinionbetween people who understood the film, and people who don't.<br><br>Fans who are not used to Yuen Woo Ping's style will find the actionweaker than Ip Man 1 and 2. But fans who look at details, andunderstanding of Martial Arts will enjoy Yuen's style much more thanSammo Hung, be it water droplets fading upon reaching the ground, glasscausing balloon string to snap, "One-inch punch" finish, we are lookingat extreme details and incredible beauty of martial arts, which haveNEVER been present in Ip Man 1 and 2.<br><br>Director Wilson Yip's way of expressing his ideas in Ip Man 3 is thatmuch deeper than previous films. Be it hinting "Be like water", or thefirst scene of "Butterfly"(a Chinese mythology of a returning spirit ofa love one, key hint to subsequent events in the film), there are manydetails which ordinary viewers might overlook, but observant viewerswill fall in love with the film.<br><br>Now, refocusing back on Donnie Yen. Many fans will be watching Ip Man 3simply because Donnie is back as Ip Man, and to many people... "DonnieYen IS Ip Man", and there have been voices of boycott of otherunrelated Yip Mun films starring other actors.<br><br>For fans of Donnie Yen, his performance will not disappoint you. Hisperformance as a grounded, highly-skilled martial artist continue toimpress, but its his work as a father and as a husband that will stayin our hearts forever. Ip Man is willing to give up his cigaretteaddiction for his family, and to give up any prestige and reputationfor his son(when he was kidnapped) and his wife(to spend more time withher).<br><br>Donnie's performance in his movie alone, is capable of leavingaudiences in tears in the cinema. His jokes in the films are excellent,while his emotional scenes touch the hearts of every audience.<br><br>To sum it all up, Ip Man 3 is the excellent and perhaps perfect endingto the Ip Man trilogy. But one needs to use his/her heart tounderstand, and use their eyes to observe.. not just the fight scenes,but every emotional scene.<br><br>Ip Man 3 has improved dramatically from the previous 2 installments,due to the additional of love stories and humour, besides incredibleaction by Yuen Woo Ping.<br><br>While many is claiming that Ip Man 3 is the best of the trilogy, I willnot go so far as that. I personally felt that Ip Man 3 is definitelybetter than Ip Man 2, and is definitely on par with Ip Man(2008).<br><br>Ip Man 3 and its previous 2 installments will definitely becomeclassics, and Ip Man 3 will be a film we still talk about for decadesto come, just like the Dark Knight Trilogy.

Ip Man is a series of Hong Kong biographical martial arts films starting with Ip Man in 2008 and followed by three sequels – Ip Man 2 (2010), Ip Man 3 (2015) and Ip Man 4 (2019). All four films are directed by Wilson Yip, written by Edmond Wong, produced by Raymond Wong and star Donnie Yen. Mandarin Films released the first two films in Hong Kong, which earned more than $37 million with a budget of around $24.6 million. The films are based on the life events of the Wing Chun master of the same name. Donnie Yen has mentioned each film has a unique theme, that the first Ip Man film was about 'Survival', Ip Man 2 focuses on 'Making a Living and Adaptation', while Ip Man 3 focuses on 'Life' itself.[1]

Ip Man (2008)[edit]
Ip Man was directed by Wilson Yip and written by Edmond Wong.[2] It was Raymond Wong's idea to develop a biographical film about Wing Chun master Ip Man. Principal photography began in Shanghai in March 2008 and ended in August. The film was released in Hong Kong on 18 December 2008 by Mandarin Films, and earned around US$21.8 million against the US$11.7 million budget.[3]Donnie Yen portrayed the role of Ip Man in the film, set in the 1930s, focuses on events in Ip's life in the city of Foshan during the Sino-Japanese War.[2]
Ip Man 2 (2010)[edit]
The sequel is set in the 1950s, when Ip Man moved to Hong Kong and attempts to promote Wing Chun in the region.[4] It was intended to focus on the relationship between Ip Man and his most famed disciple Bruce Lee.[5] The film was directed by Yip and written by Edmond Wong, while Raymond Wong produced the film and was released in Hong Kong on 29 April 2010 by Mandarin Films. The film grossed more than $50 million against the budget of $12.9 million.[6][7]
Ip Man 3 (2015)[edit]
Principal photography began in Shanghai on 25 March 2015, which Yip is again directing the film based on the script by Wong.[8] Donnie Yen is again portraying the role of Ip Man, along with him Mike Tyson is also playing a role of a street fighter.[8]Bruce Lee's character was initially supposed to be featured in CGI, because the producers could not find an actor who could portray Lee convincingly,[8] but Danny Chan was eventually cast in the role.[9]
Principal photography for Ip Man 3 began on 25 March 2015, and the film was released in Hong Kong on 24 December 2015.
Master Z: Ip Man Legacy (2018)[edit]
Max Zhang reprises his role as Cheung Tin Chi from Ip Man 3 in this spin-off film. Directed by Yuen Woo-ping, it also stars Tony Jaa, Dave Bautista and Michelle Yeoh.[10]
Ip Man 4 (2019)[edit]
On 30 September 2016, Yen announced via Facebook that he and Wilson Yip would continue the franchise with Ip Man 4.[11] Filming began in 2018.[12] The film will take place in the 1960s, and will see Ip Man travelling to the United States to work with Bruce Lee after the latter decides to open a Wing Chun school in Seattle.[13] The trailer for Ip Man 4 came out on March 18, 2019 and Donnie Yen will be fighting against Scott Adkins.[14]

Home media[edit]
Ip Man Trilogy, a Blu-ray compilation that features the first three films in the series, was released by Well Go USA in November 2016. The Blu-ray also includes special features such as deleted scenes, 'behind-the-scenes' featurette and interviews with Donnie Yen and Mike Tyson.[27]
