The TestGen software application is not being retired, only the plug-in for the MyLab player. You can still use the TestGen desktop application. For more information, see Pearson TestGen. Select disciplines offer Pearson MyTest, an online test generation program that. And test bank files; Installing TestGen and Downloading TestGen Testbanks.
Here is a description of the TestGen software from the publisher.
“TestGen is a test generator program from Pearson Education designed to help you create paper handouts, quizzes or tests for your students. You can select questions from publisher-supplied testbanks that correspond to Pearson textbooks, edit testbank questions, and print in a variety of formats. TestGen's built-in random number generator allows you to easily create multiple versions of tests, and you also have the capability of writing your own test questions.”
What is really nice about TestGen is that you can easily writeyour own exams or use testbanks from Pearson and save them in a form that iseasy to upload to BlackBoard. Much easier than trying to write exams directlyin BlackBoard.
If your class uses a textbook from Pearson, you should be able to download and use the TestGen software from Pearson. To do this you will need to have a Pearson account and login as an instructor.

If you browse through the Pearson catalog and instructor resources site you can find testbanks for other textbooks that may be similar to the one you are using. This will expand your library of testbanks from which to draw questions. (I am currently pulling questions from about 10 different testbanks, ME). You can also modify or rewrite testbank questions using TestGen and save the new questions to your test question library.
For many of the testbanks you can now download a package that you can directly import into BlackBoard as a pool and then create a test from the questions in BlackBoard.
An important note about testbanks.
Beware! Almost all testbanks are available for sale to students from 'unofficial' websites. Using more than one testbank as a source of questions helps to prevent the students from having all of the questions if they download the testbank for the textbook you are using.
