Garry's Mod (commonly abbreviated as GMod) is a sandboxphysics game developed by Facepunch Studios and published by Valve Corporation. Garry's Mod was originally a mod created by Garry Newman for Valve's Half-Life 2 but was later made into a standalone release on 29 November 2006 for Microsoft Windows.[1] Later updates saw an OS X port, added in 2010, and a Linux port in 2013.

Gmod is a valued, gift for all who have flair for online games whether they play it at their leisure time or they are used to spending all night literally at the gaming tables. Let’s take the soft option of Gmod Download and have fun right now!

Gameplay[edit]

The base game mode 'sandbox' has no set objectives, and gives the player the freedom to spawn non-player characters (NPCs), ragdolls or objects (called props), such as furniture, shipping containers, dumpsters and explosions, and interact with them in various ways.

A variety of props, NPCs, ragdolls, vehicles and add-ons can be selected and placed into the sandbox from any installed game running on the Source game engine or from the community-created collections, such as PHX3 for props and Civil Protection model packs for ragdolls. An important tool offered to the player, the Physics Gun (sometimes called the Phys-Gun), allows the props and ragdolls to be picked up, rotated, and frozen in place. Another important implement, the Tool Gun, is a multi-purpose tool for performing various tasks, such as constraining props together, creating interactive buttons, and creating controllable winches and wheels. It can also be used to change the facial expression and pose the digits of a ragdoll. The Tool Gun can also be used to control and use add-ons created by the community, which can be accessed through the Steam Workshop.

The game uses the Source engine's modified version of the Havok physics engine,[2] which allows players to build contraptions that follow the laws of physics, allowing realistic simulations of structures and experiments.

User-created content[edit]

How To Download Gmod Maps

Garry's Mod allows users to take advantage of the extensibility of the Source Engine through the spawn menu, which enables users to spawn models and maps imported by the user. Since Garry's Mod version 9, Lua scripting has been a notable feature added to the game which allows players to run their own scripts, which expanded potential user modifications by enabling the creation of scripted weapons, entities, vehicles, tools, game modes and NPCs that weren't possible in the game before.[3]Multiplayergame servers will automatically attempt to send any custom content to the client when they connect.[4] Most users prefer to download the Server Data from the Steam Workshop. Examples include game modes such as Trouble in Terrorist Town, DarkRP, Deathrun, Jailbreak, Prop Hunt, and Murder.[5]

Wiremod[edit]

Wiremod is a user-created mod that significantly expands the sandbox capabilities of the game by adding a large number of pseudo-electronic components such as microcontrollers, logic gates, buttons, radios, gyroscopes, screens, GPS modules, sensors, laser rangefinders, speed sensors and much more. Wiring these components together allows the player to create a very large variety of electronically-controlled machines. It also features Expression2 (E2) general-purpose controllers, which allow the player to program the chip with a high-level programming language to compute inputs and outputs to control a wide swathe of elements. CPU modules, which use a Low-level programming language, allow similar capabilities, as well as the capability to render graphics on a digital screen, to be able to fully simulate a virtual computer. The use of Wiremod allows the creation of very complex contraptions, and everything from virtual computers to missiles, aircraft, spaceships and space probes, robots and drones; all constructed from components available in-game without the use of modded entities.

Fretta contest[edit]

In winter 2009–2010, a contest was held for Garry's Mod by the game's developers to create the best new game mode using a programming framework called 'Fretta'.[6] Fretta, Italian for 'hurry', allows developers to quickly and easily create new game modes for Garry's Mod with commonly required functionality already implemented so the developers can focus on unique aspects of their game modes. Fretta was inspired by a similar fan-created framework 'Rambo_6's Simple Gamemode Base'. However, for inclusion in Garry's Mod, Newman decided to rewrite it with input and contributions from the original author and other developers.[7] The winners of the contest range from a recreation of the Mafia party game to an aerial combat game mode.[8] The contest winners have been included in Garry's Mod with their own Steam Achievements.[9]

Toybox and Steam Workshop[edit]

Garry's Mod 10 added a function called Toybox into the spawn menu (in Sandbox) that allowed players to share and download user-created content. After 2012's release of the Steam Workshop feature, Garry's Mod 13 replaced the Toybox feature with Steam Workshop. With the Steam Workshop feature came more add-ons for game modes other than Sandbox, with nearly 1.3 million Steam Workshop items.[10] A deeper connection to dedicated servers using 'collections' (a feature called FastDL for its faster download speeds than downloading directly from the server itself), and other small improvements.

GMod Tower[edit]

In July 2009, a small team of developers, working under the names MacDGuy, Mr Sunabouzu, Nican and AzuiSleet, released a server designed for Garry's Mod called GMod Tower.[11]GMod Tower was a server designed as a social media platform for users to get together and play minigames. Within hours of release, the website for GMod Tower reached two million views.[11]

The developers of GMod Tower later formed PixelTail Games, a Washington state-based developer designed to oversee future updates of the server, which shut down in 2016 and was replaced by its own standalone game, Tower Unite.[12] Speaking to PC Gamer about the move to independence, MacDGuy stated that Garry's Mod and the Source engine had limited them on ideas.[11]

Release[edit]

Garry's Mod became available as a paid game on Valve's digital distribution service Steam on 29 November 2006.[13] Before this, earlier versions of the game were released for free between 2004 and 2005, with the last free version released on 27 November 2005.[14] As of January 2016, the game has sold 10 million copies.[15]

Possible sequel[edit]

In September 2015, a sequel based on Garry's Mod was confirmed. The attention surrounding the sequel took off when Newman took to Facepunch Forums to ask users ideas for changes. From the thread, confirmed changes/features include a new hook system for add-ons, sandboxed add-ons, permissions to access local hardware on the player's PC, in-game Workshop browsing/spawning, and Lua modules.[16]

However, in March 2016, Newman revealed that there had been little progression on the planned sequel and suggested it 'might never come out.'[17] When asked about when the game could possibly release five months later, Newman stated that the game would release on 16 September.[18]

How To Download Gmod Addons

The following year, Newman revealed Sandbox (stylised as S&box), a game that could 'possibly become Garry's Mod 2'.[19] It features a hotloading C# layer on top of Unreal Engine 4. It is not known if Sandbox is the sequel mentioned above, or an entirely separate game.

Reception[edit]

Garry's Mod won Computer Games Magazine's 2005 'Best Mod'[20] and PC Gamer US's 'Best Mod 2005' awards. The latter magazine's Dan Stapleton called it 'ingenious'.[21]

Garry's Mod (GMod) Review

Garry's Mod or GMod

Using the already very well made and flexible Half Life 2 engine, Garry's Mod (Gmod) is a mod for Half-Life 2 that enables players to create just about any type of game mode for the game that they can think of. You have the ability to use textures and character models from other games, and make many types of game modes that you can think of using the options that the mod gives you for making your modes and having your players download textures and character models that they can use in your games.

GMod PC Game Overview

The modification for Half Life 2 has been around for quite some time now. There have been many popular game modes that have been quite successful on Garry's Mod since its launch. These are just a few of the most popular and standard modes that have become quite successful using this Gmod sandbox.

GMod has a dedicated following and thousands of servers to choose from and to play online with your friends. There are also tens of thousands of players that play on Garry's Mod on a regular basis. You can also choose to create and host your own Garry's Mod server using a server kit provided to your for GMod game by doing a simple Google search for the information.

This modification for Half Life 2 is one of the most open and flexible mods you can probably find for any game. It enables the user to do just about anything they want in the game and create just about anything they want. Because of this, there are thousands of machinima out there featuring Garry's Mod. For example, here is a video that shows you how to build a plane on Gmod:

While there are a lot of game modes with in GMod, there are a few that are by far played the most. A few game modes in particular that are very popular in Garry's Mod are Prop Hunt, Trouble in Terrorist Town, Murder, Hide and Seek, and Cops and Robbers. These game modes either originated in different games, or are entirely made up. These game modes are by far the most played and fun game modes known with in the game, and so much so that many dedicated server providers have basic versions of these game modes installed to these Garry's Mod dedicated server's by default.

Just to do a bit of description of the game modes that are in GMod game: Prop Hunt is the first one up on the list. In Prop Hunt, there are two teams: Props and Hunters. If you are a prop, you start out as a scientist character and go around the map selecting objects to transform into. When you transform into this object, the objective is to blend into the map as well as possible so the Hunters cannot find you. Depending on the map, there are literally thousands of objects you are able to turn into. When you are a prop, it is best to act like the prop and find a spot that the prop would normally spawn in, and do not move. If you are a Hunter, your objective is to find the props by either picking them up, waiting for one to move, finding one out of place, or shooting them. In order to 'find' the prop, you must shoot and kill the person behind the prop in order to eliminate them. If even one of the props are not found, the Props team wins when the time runs limit runs out. If the Hunters do kill all of the props, then the Hunters win the round. There are hundreds of Prop Hunt maps available online that you are able to use on your server, or you are able to create your own if you know how to. So this game you can get downloading Gmod free is a bit like Hide and Seek, but Hide and Seek is another game mode that we will mention later on in this review.

The next game mode on the list is Trouble in Terrorist Town. In this game mode everyone spawns as a terrorist, and the objective is for all of the terrorists to find the 'traitor' among the terrorists. This is hard to do because all of you spawn and look exactly the same. The only hint is that the traitor must kill all of the other terrorists to win. For them to do this properly, they must be very sneaky when killing the other terrorists. As the traitor, you must act like the other terrorists and kill each and every one of them secretly. If you do not do this and everyone finds out you are the traitor, everyone will be hunting you down and you have to take out each and every one of them. This is the hard way of doing it, so it is best for you to secretly and strategically kill each and every one of the terrorists. Depending on the number of people playing, there can be two or more traitors, and these guys must work together to kill all of the terrorists. There is also a detective if there is enough people. This person's objective is to go through measures to figure out who is a traitor, and who is not. This game also has a time limit. If the traitor does not kill all of the terrorists by the end of the time limit, the terrorists win. If they do, the traitors win. If the terrorists kill all of the traitors, the terrorists also win. This is a pretty simple, yet very fun game inside your Gmod download and a lot of the maps it is played on are always a blast to learn.

Third on the list of popular game modes in Garry's Mod download is Cops and Robbers. There are two teams in this GMod game mode and they are the runners (which are the bad guys) and the police. The runners' goal is to have one runner free for a certain amount of time and this amount of time depends on the server, but is usually about a minute. The polices' goal is to put all of the runners in jail before the time of the round runs out. At the beginning of each round, the warden, which is a special policeman on the team, has thirty seconds to place down his jail. If the warden does not place his jail, the round will immediately restart. After he does, the police have to tag the runners, one by one, with the stunstick to throw them into the placed jail. While they are doing this, there is a marker on there HUD (heads-up-display) indicated where the placed jail is. The police are also able to run a bit faster than the runners, so they are able to catch them. One the runners team, players have two main items. This is the holstered weapon option and the crowbar. In the runner is holstered, they are able to run faster than if they have their crowbar out. However, the runners can use the crowbar to free jailed runners from the jail by hitting them with the crowbar, so it is best to only use the crowbar if that is your intention. Otherwise, if you are running you might as well be holstered. Some of the runners have a smoke grenade. The smoke grenade can be used to throw off the police team when they are running away from them. When the smoke grenade is used, the runners get an indicator on their HUD showing where the smoke grenade was thrown. So, in other words, this can be very useful in areas where there are a lot of objects so you can throw off the police and lose them in the smoke. Overall, this is also a very fun game that can be played with a fairly sized group of people.

Fourth, is the Gmod game mode Murder. In this game mode that you can find in Garry's Mod free download, there are two different roles that you are able to play and are randomly selected to play. These roles are Bystander and Murderer. The role of the bystanders is to survive the murderer who is randomly chosen at the beginning of the round. The game mode has characters that have pre-defined names that are not your in-game name. So, when you are referring to one another, you will visually only see the pre-defined names in the game which makes it more different to figure out who is and who is not the murderer. One of the bystanders has a secret weapon which they can use to kill the murderer. This person should most likely identify who they are among the group of bystanders so they can stay around this person so they can see the murders that are done by the person who is chosen to be the murderer in that particular round. The secret weapon is usually a gun. If this person with the secret weapon kills a bystander, their range of the gun will be shortened for a short amount of time. The murderer also cannot pick up the secret weapon when it is dropped - he can only protect it from being picked up by any of the bystanders. If the weapon is dropped, any of the bystanders can pick it up and use the weapon to protect themselves. A bystander can also receive the gun if they find five glowing props in the map they are playing on. The murderer is equipped with a knife, which can be hidden by holstering your weapon. The murderer's objective is to kill all of the bystanders without being killed by the bystander with the secret weapon, the gun. The murderer, when using the knife, kills bystanders instantly - so it is best to stay at a fair distance from everyone on the map and be aware of who is around you at all times. The murderer can also see foot steps on the map to track down the bystanders. If the murderer waits too long before killing another person, smoke will appear from the murderer and the only way for the smoke to disappear is for the murderer to kill someone. If the murderer kills everyone, the murderer wins, however if the bystanders kill the murderer, the bystanders win. This is a very fun game mode that can be used in a fairly good sized group, and is filled with loads of fun. Kind of similar to Trouble in Terrorist Town, if you like that game mode, you will really like Murder and should definitely give it a shot.

The last popular game mode in Gmod free Download is Hide and Seek. This game mode is like Prop Hunt, but you do not turn into props. If you have ever played Hide and Seek in real life, this game mode is exactly like that. There is a seeker, and the rest of the players are hiders. The seeker has to wait about 25 to 30 seconds before being able to see anything, and they will have a black screen. This will allow the hiders to find their spots on the map and stay there. Usually on Hide and Seek maps, there are many rooms and the map is usually quite large. This allows there to be a lot of places for the hiders to hide. Both the seeker and the hiders have a short sprint time, and are able to sprint during this amount of time to evade the seeker (as the hider) and to catch up to the hider that is running away (as the seeker). The seeker must hit the hider with a weapon (usually a crowbar or something similar depending on the creator of the game) in order to tag them to officially find them. If the hider gets away from the seeker, they can continue hiding in the new spot. The hiders that aren't found, win. If the seeker finds everyone, the seeker wins and the round ends. If you enjoyed playing Hide and Seek when you were young, you can now enjoy the fun again on Garry's Mod in the very fun to play game mode.
