MYOB Serial Number. Your MYOB serial number is a 12 digit code that uniquely identifies your licence. It starts with the digit “6” followed by 11 digits. The MYOB software series is built for easy set up purposes, so that even those who aren’t technologically savvy can learn to accurately install and activate it. However, not every installation and activation process will go smoothly. In the event that you experience MYOB activation errors after installing your software, here’s how you can resolve them:

- Identify the error
Due to MYOB being made for easy installation and activation, the errors that users experience when activating it is greatly reduced. Typically in situations where there are MYOB activation errors, the errors are usually caused by MYOB experiencing difficulty with company file confirmation, the confirmation code being invalid or when the user has achieved maximum capacity for company files. There are different steps to be done when resolving these MYOB activation errors.
- Maximum capacity
Depending on the software’s license entitlement, the maximum capacity for company file activation can change. Usually when users receive this error, it meant that they have already used up the maximum allowed number of company files for their MYOB software based on their subscription and product. The very first step would be to check if you already have a different copy of the same company file activated (especially when it comes to restored company files). Since company files only require a one time activation, take a look at your company files and deactivate any that you no longer need to work on so that you can free up the necessary space needed for activation entitlement.
You will still be able to view the deactivated files in read-only format. Alternatively, you can also buy additional activation entitlements to be able to activate more. To do either one of these actions, contact MYOB support to get the quickest response.
- Company file confirmation error
MYOB requires confirmation via product serial code with it’s database at a regularly structured schedule (every 4 to 9 months) for authentication purposes. In the likely event that users are prompted at a rate more often than the 4-9 months time range, this will hit a confirmation limit and MYOB may lock their serial number to prevent further access to company files. This is for security reasons- MYOB perceives frequent serial code confirmation prompts as a possibility of unauthorised use of company files. To prevent this and save yourself the trouble of having to call MYOB support staff, check that the computers you open files on have the same system dates, disable the automatic file confirmation prompt to keep track of the frequency, save your file to the cloud and choose the ‘Confirm later’ option when necessary.
- Invalid Confirmation Code
In situations like this, you can resolve this MYOB activation error by simply re-entering the confirmation code again. If re-entering does not work, you can request for a new code to use. Close the MYOB file, you will be prompted to complete the full confirmation process again once you reopen the file. You will then be able to procure a new confirmation code and retry.
- Incorrect MYOB Software Version
Ascertain that your serial number matches the product’s serial number when trying to open your company files. If you have different software versions, you can try opening these files using a different version too. Often when this error message appears, it’s due to product incompatibility. Meaning to say for example, you have AccountRight but are trying to open with MYOB Essentials. Or if you have gotten the files from someone else and you have to make changes. Go to Help, and select Change Serial Number. MYOB will then allow you to type in your serial number and activate your MYOB files but you can only print, see or extract the data since it will be in read only mode.
